Local author Naykishia Darby will discuss her book of selected poems, Reflective Expressions, on Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. The event will take place in the Second Floor Programming Room of the Wood County District Public Library.
Darby, a poet, literary scholar, and English professor, offers in Reflective Expressions a poignant collection of personal poems exploring themes of hurt, healing, and resilience. Through the progression of each piece, readers witness a transformative healing journey shaped by life’s pivotal moments. The collection covers a broad range of topics, from friendship and motherhood to the nuanced subject of medical cannabis.
An advocate for diversity and equity, Darby’s research centers on the experiences of LGBTQIA+ students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Black women’s literature, and gender identity and expression among Black women performing artists.
Beyond her writing, Darby has contributed as a panelist, presenter, and moderator at numerous academic and social conferences and has published both scholarly and creative works in various journals and books.
